BAL and Statoil have partnered to develop and commercialize technology to produce ethanol from Norwegian seaweed in Norway.
BAL and DuPont were awarded a $9m grant from the Department of Energy's ARPA-E program for the production of butanol from macroalgae. This $18m project is the largest
ARPA-E project in the country.
Butamax is a joint venture between DuPont and BP for the commercialization of the technology.
BAL and the Universidad de Los Lagos were awarded a $7.5m grant by the InnovaChile CORFO through “Convocatoria Nacional de Consorcios Technológicos Empresariales de Investigación en Biocombustible a partier de micro y macro algas” for the biofuels production from Macrocystis pyrifera, native seaweed to Chile.
